Trauma, Anxiety and Depression

Trauma is the emotional and physiological response to experiences that overwhelm our sense of safety and ability to cope. Life often doesn’t go as expected, and when that sense of safety is disrupted, it can deeply impact both body and mind. Many people feel an intense urge to escape painful memories or emotions, which can increase vulnerability to addiction. Trauma can interrupt emotional growth, but it does not leave us without hope. With support and care, healing is possible. As we tend to the deeper wounds within, resilience can be restored—and growth and strength can emerge again.

Mary Ann Green is trained in EMDR and is a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner. EMDR & Brainspotting evidence-based, mind-body therapies that help process and resolve trauma at a deep level. Both approaches target the brain’s fight, flight, or freeze response, allowing for lasting change.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses guided eye movements (bilateral stimulation) to help the brain reprocess stuck or distressing memories. It is highly effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and related concerns. To learn more about EMDR, please click here

Brainspotting is a more intuitive, less structured approach that uses eye position to access and release stored trauma in the brain and body. It focuses on deep, “bottom-up” healing and can reduce emotional and physical distress.

What does Brainspotting help:

  • Physical and Emotional Trauma: Highly effective for PTSD, trauma, and accidents.
  • Unresolved Distress: Helps with anxiety, depression, and chronic stress.
  • Performance Enhancement: Used to enhance creativity and sports performance.
  • Deep Processing: Can often provide quicker results than traditional talk therapy alone

EMDR was originally developed to treat PTSD and is also effective for:

  • Panic attacks
  • Complicated grief
  • Dissociative disorders
  • Disturbing memories
  • Phobias
  • Chronic pain
  • Performance anxiety
  • Addictions
  • Stress
  • Sexual and/or physical abuse
  • Body dysmorphic disorder
  • Personality disorders

Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel impossible to control, even after trying therapy?

If so, you are not alone—and effective help is available.

Therapy is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety because it addresses the underlying causes, not just the symptoms. Unlike medication alone, it helps you understand your patterns, calm your nervous system, and build lasting coping skills.

Common symptoms of anxiety include: nervousness, restlessness, panic, rapid breathing, sweating, muscle tension, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, and intrusive or obsessive thoughts.

Anxiety can also be connected to OCD or past trauma, including PTSD.

Therapy can help you uncover what’s driving your anxiety, reframe fearful thoughts, and develop healthier ways to cope.

Depression & Mood Disorders

Mood disorders include conditions such as depression, persistent depressive disorder, and bipolar-related disorders that affect a person’s emotional state, energy, motivation, and ability to experience pleasure or stability in daily life.

Are you feeling hopeless, disconnected, or unlike yourself?

You may notice:

  • Loss of interest in things you once enjoyed
  • Low energy or motivation
  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  • Withdrawing from others
  • Feeling emotionally numb or overwhelmed
  • Racing thoughts or difficulty feeling present

If this sounds familiar, you may be experiencing depression or another mood-related concern.

Mary Ann Green, LPC-MHSP, understands how heavy this can feel. Many clients find relief in realizing their symptoms do not define them—and that healing is possible.

In therapy, Mary Ann helps clients explore emotional, biological, and life factors contributing to their symptoms while offering compassionate support through difficult seasons. Together, clients work toward greater clarity, emotional balance, and renewed hope.

If you’ve been feeling unlike yourself—less joy, low motivation, restlessness, or difficulty feeling grounded—support is available. Therapy can help you process life’s challenges, build coping tools, and move toward healing with greater stability and strength.
