Madison Gentry, LPC-MHSP
We all have stories to tell. Those stories can hold a vast array of complex experiences, memories, and emotions that have shaped who we are and our perspectives on life, positive or negative. Sometimes, if we have experienced more pain in our lives, we can get stuck in a harmful narrative about ourselves or the world around us. If you are reading this, I assume you may be looking for a solution to this pain or you are looking for an opportunity to grow or heal as an individual and/or couple. Either way, I would love to work with you. I have experience in multiple clinical settings from mental health crisis units to intensive outpatient programs to individual, couples, and group counseling to integrated healthcare as well as research environments. I hold many skills and utilize multiple modalities in order to tailor the therapy process to what each individual (or couple) needs. I am a trained EMDR clinician and use this in my practice as well as Psychodynamic, cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy, somatic therapy, and many other techniques. I come from an understanding and supportive perspective when working with my clients. I am 100% in their corner and will meet them where they are at with the compassion and respect that each human deserves. I am excited to begin working with you.
Education
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in the state of Tennessee. As an undergraduate, I studied Psychology at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN where I received my bachelor degree in Psychology in 2017. Studying the “why” of an individual’s thoughts, behaviors, and desires led me wanting to understand and help others more; therefore, I continued my education earning my graduate degree in clinical and mental health counseling at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN in 2019. While at Lipscomb, I completed my counseling internships at Lipscomb’s University Counseling Center and Neighborhood Health Clinic in East Nashville in 2018-2019.
Therapy Experience
I have experience working in the clinical setting with adult individuals and couples. I began working as a crisis counselor after graduating in 2019 but worked in the crisis field as a resident counselor, facilitating group therapy before this. I transitioned to clinical counseling, seeing individuals and couples, in 2022 and have loved it since. My work has been with those who are struggling with any form of trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, attachment issues, psychosis, addiction, self-worth issues, and adult children of dysfunctional family systems. I am a trained EMDR therapist and am continuing my training to become fully certified.
Clinical Interest
I work with adults in individual and couples sessions. I enjoy working with those struggling with relational and attachment issues, trauma, addiction, self-worth, history of family dysfunction, and many other interpersonal difficulties. I am specifically drawn to attachment-focused sessions that dive into clients' family histories exploring ways to change maladaptive patterns. There is nothing more encouraging to see those I work with healing from and breaking negative cycles and generational patterns. I am also extremely passionate about working with those who have experienced trauma of any kind. My belief is that a person can heal from the wounds they have suffered and move forward with a life built of purpose and connection. EMDR is a tool I have found helpful working with those who have experienced traumas or hold negative beliefs about themselves. Some other clinical interests include anxiety and mood disorders, spirituality and faith, grief, and life transitions.
When I am not in the therapy office, I enjoy spending time with my husband, cooking, playing with our dog, being in the outdoors walking and hiking, and having friends and family over for game or movie nights.
